Bought this particular item nearly 2 years ago for the kitchen not much to look at but still going strong and gives off great light, definitely would recommend and buy again

How heavy it is, it will be fine to fit with plaster board sealing?

These are probably the standard arrangement of x times 0.5W LEDs (in this case x being 48) in series, on an aluminium substrate printed circuit board, with a central driver giving a NON-ISOLATED 160mA output current. If one LED fails, the entire string loses power. Some have a 300mA output and two strings of 24 LEDs in parallel.
The failed LED is normally easy to identify because, as it fails, the full 144 v appears across it and arcs - leaving a black spot visible at the centre of the LED.

The board is mounted in close contact with the thin metal case - and that conducts the heat away. It's over temperature that kills LEDs - so if you mount this in a fairly cold room, it will last longer than a very hot kitchen.

If you are into DIY, you can "fix" a failed LED with some silver loaded paint, of the kind used to repair car window heating elements. Break away the remains of the LED and apply a drop of paint in its place. That reduces the string number by one - as the constant current through them remains the same, you just get 1/48th less light output. Do this too often and the central driver will fail.

IME, the most common failure point is that driver module. They can be replaced by another with the same output voltage range and constant current value.

Note that all the tracks on the board and the LEDs should be assumed to be LIVE to the mains when switched on. Even if not lighting. Make sure that the metal case is grounded - as the aluminium PCB can become live very easily.

For £14 though I'd just buy a new one to slot onto the existing fittings

Are these easy to fit? I mean is it a DIY job? Cheers

Most come with a base. You screw this to the ceiling. The wiring connects to your original blue & brown with a wago style clip which is supplied. Then just mount to base by turning through approx. 45 degrees. (edited)

The brighter the better especially for kitchens and bathrooms , I have 3000 lumens fitted in my kitchen which completely changed the experience of cooking

Is this good for a bathroom?

Quote from google: "IP44 lighting is suitable for use in Zone 2 and Zone 3 (Outside Zones) – in other words, within 60cm from the edge of the bath and to a height of 2.25m from the floor. Note that inside a 60cm radius above a basin is also Zone 2 and requires fittings rated as IP44 or higher."

This is daylight white, 5000k. 6500k would be pure white. I'm more of a 3500k warm white man me self.

Is this not a better deal as it's a higher wattage and brighter at £12.91 with a 20% voucher off
    mutley1's avatar
Good point. Slightly cheaper and brighter as well.

Wonder if I should cancel my order and get this one?

Update - decided to stick with my order as the original one is lighter and retails at a higher price to start with, so I think it is a better quality light. (edited)

This is exactly the same situation as me and the Mrs. I absolutely hate dim lighting . Even supermarket lighting is pretty dim these days.

    Any good for living room?
    glovebox1's avatar
    No. Too white & bright.
  18. mutley1's avatar
How do people deal with replacing these? If they go, it can take a few days to buy a replacement. In the meantime, you just sit in the dark?
    Rob_Samsung's avatar
Same as if you haven't got any bulbs in I suppose.
  19. johnsquire334's avatar
IP44 and waterproof? That doesn't make any sense.
