Looking to move over to Brsk broadband from virgin.

The 1 gig is to the router only and from the router to your device i rarely get above 600mbs even though i am using a Samsung S23 Ultra and a Macbook Air M1 just 1 metre away from the router!

The advertising standards agency should only allow broadband companies to advertise on the minimum speed they will deliver rather than a max theoretical speed which they conjour out of thin air.

Only last week we heard Premier Inn get reprimanded for advertising £35 rooms when thier werent any available!

About time, Companies were accountable for there actions!

Brsk will probably not deliver 1 gig either as promised but if i am paying just £32 a month - not fussed! (edited)

Your speeds are guaranteed to the router. If you go to SamKnows RealSpeed you’ll be able to test the speed to your Virgin Media hub. You should find you’re close to the 1Gb+ speeds they promised. With a Hub 5 and a 2.5Gb Ethernet card you should find you can get the full speed to your computer too.

WiFi speeds are NEVER guaranteed. It’s too variable on loads of factors including interference and your own equipment you connect to the hub.

If you want to switch providers go for it, but it would be foolish to expect BRSK to fix the specific issue you’re complaining about. It will be the same if not worse

How much hassle is it to cancel and open in wife's name ?

Currently have 500 (1gig with volt) + virgin stream for £36.

    Contract ends 24th May.
They can only offer me 1 gig for £48 pm for 18 months I said no. So my cancellation is pending

Retentions is a lottery and you don't always get better deals or calls back despite some people's experience. I've been swapping and dealing with them for years. Handed in my notice multiple times over that period and at times got calls back - other times nothing. Some posts above this one conforms this - so don't hang all your hopes on a good enough deal from retentions within your 30 day cancellation period.

Not much hassle on cancelling and moving to your partners name. Done it 3 times now (back and forth). Set up a new customer contract for the day or 2 before mines due to end. Always went smoothly. On one occasion they phoned me and asked me if my partner wanted to keep my equipment and swap over the account to it to save me returning it and her getting new ones posted out. They don't care about who has they account as long as they have the business for another year.

So if the new customer deal is favourable - go ahead and sign up to it and try to get the dates to match as best as possible with disconnection/reconnection to avoid internet loss

Currently left virgin after 12 years. My bill for 350mbps gone up from£16.40 to £62 after promotional period ended . Cancelled over the phone . They never came back to me with offer during 30 days cancellation period . Called 2 days before disconnection day and was told no offer for my account 🤷‍♂️

showing £35 for me, is it to do with the area?
    KodaBear's avatar
If you live in a Nexfibre area they do sometimes have different prices yes

    - A minor correction on pricing. Cashback on M500 is £93.50 from TCB, essentially making it £27.81/month and not £26.89/month

Cheers for the great deal, thanks!

After having 1gb vm for 18 months contract up on 18 may, just had an altnet 1gb symmetrical installed £31 a month so can directly compare, fttp is night n day better than docsix 3.1 coax vm,webpages just load immediately ping is a bit higher 18 compared to 13 on vm,vm are installing xgspon in my area at the moment but legacy installs won’t happen until next year so vm will hopefully be better then but im much happier on fttp
    igloolad's avatar
are you using a vm superhub if so, you would be better changing to modem mode and use your own router then you can change dns probably to a faster one than vm etc

Vodafone service and reliability is much better than Virgin Media.
    horizon-in's avatar
I moved to Vodafone, awaiting switch, hope they are better than virgin

Just tried getting tcb from virgin but they ask for your details and will call you back within tens days which means you won't get your cashback so annoying

What do u mean by tried getting TCB from Virgin?
Not very clear to be honest.

Normally cashback is paid by TopCashback and you don't have to ask Virgin or any other retailer in that matter.

22 years with Virgin and have made the switch to city fibre/toob. I've left behind an increasing £75 bill for £25. My speed has tripled. About time decent competition to to drive down price
    unisoftenterprises's avatar
Enjoy it while you can. Unfortunately VM will be after snapping up Altnets as they flounder and already bought Upp. At ohe time they were looking at cityfibre, but think they are now doing the waiting game....

i was with them over 20 years vm/telepest, they dont give a jot about loyalty all they want to fo is put the price up, told the to go forth a.m., now with youfibre, 2 year contact, 1gb for £25 pm, twice the speed for 1/2 the price
    ddnvidia's avatar
Dont really see why any company should care about loyalty, i dont get a discount for going to the same petrol station all the time. Still same price per litre as everyone else regardless if i filled up once or 100 times this year. Loyalty discounts in years gone by were simply because they made a bunch of money from you and could afford to remove some revenue to retain you as a customer. Sometimes it'd be done because you'd be valuable in another metric so they'd lose money on one product to make some profit on another.

I left Virgin a month ago to move to Youfibre. I am a lot happier now as the contract price is fixed for 2 years. I now get twice the speed for almost half the cost. Virgin are a dreadful company to deal with.
    ddnvidia's avatar
people go mad over the fixed price thing and i dunno, its never really been an issue, you can roughly calc the price increase in your total cost of ownership over the contract period. However YouFibre are probably the better of the two since its XGSPON they do and offer up to 8Gibt (10Gbit really?) which im a bit jealous of. GoFibre are only offering 1Gbit atm despite also being XGSPON - suppose it means they can at least offer it in the hopefully near future (with symmetrical available but a little hidden on the website)

I hate VM so much. I was delighted to switch to BRSK when they put a poles up in my street. Now I get 500 up and down. Goodbye and good riddance VM.
    horizon-in's avatar
I waited 10 years for virgin to be in area, but the first month experience was so bad. Delayed instalment, poor CS and then 5 days of complete no service a day after installation. I cancelled within my 14 days cooling period. It will be the last company I will go for broadband, really hated their overseas Customer Services who didn’t have any clue.

I'm happy paying a few quid more for 1Gb FTTP. Anything to not give this mob money.
  14. HonestView's avatar
I signed up for virgin media broadband last year with a promise of cashback from topcashback
It was 18 months contract, price increased by £3 something a month and the service is average
I am frustrated by the topcashback excuses, nearly a year now but no cashback yet, I have to send them a reminder every month and they reply with a text book answer.
My point is, at the time of shopping consumers make a decision according to the price of the product/ service and take the cashback into account.
Unfortunately these cashback companies don't keep their promises.
That leaves consumers ending up paying a higher price

    Same here from March 23

This is new customers only, just thought id try getting this whilst nearing the end of my contract. They do not accept existing customers on the same package without TCB
  16. GeekUnique's avatar
Rock solid product but use your own hardware and put the VM router in modem mode. Customer service about as good as most of the big providers but with your own hardware should be less need to call them.

I am stuck in a contract. Worst mistake joining VM.

Perfect timing, mine is due to expire at the end of this month, do you know when the offer expires?
    GujSehambi's avatar
How are you planning to take this out if your existing customer? I’m also an existing customer and mine is ending in three weeks time too
  19. tom6195's avatar
Any way to get this as an existing customer? My current contract will terminate on 25th May
    igloolad's avatar
just ring them up and tell them you are leaving, look for a good deal with someone else as ammunition then point out this deal, i used to do this all the time when i was with them, left for a better deal where prices do go up every year or more with vm (edited)
  20. Thackers's avatar
    Great price.

Him currenty paying £25 for same 1Gb volt
    achieve 1.15Gb

    heat from me  (edited)
    tom6195's avatar
How did you get that speed for that price
  21. professor78's avatar
Decent deal, but make sure to also check or give Virgin Business a call, normally around the same price (you don't have to be a business) and you have way better customer service to UK account manager.
  22. A_H2020's avatar
My bill just doubled. Do I cancel straight away or call them up?
    tom6195's avatar
I cancelled via online chat straight away.

I won’t recommend Virgin media, terrible CS plus very unreliable. Esp if it is new in your adea. Sheffield had two outage for 5 days each in last 2-3 months with no service at all. They said it is with new 5x hub they are giving for new contracts. The customer service was so bad with no estimate time of fix.
    InfoAddict's avatar
Their customer service is terrible, however they are the chepaest option when bundling the football with broadband.

What's the cheapest O2 sim you can get to receive volt benefits? (edited)
    KodaBear's avatar
£6.99 USwitch, or £5 if you have a pay as you go account that you migrate to monthly contract.
  25. RedDev11's avatar
Is it fine to use the same O2 sim across the 2 contracts if you take it out in your partners name?
My sim is linekd to my account but might have to switch to my partners name, so can I use my sim against it?
    KodaBear's avatar
Volt verification takes place against the address of the O2 and Virgin accounts. If they match, you get the rewarded added within a couple of weeks. Doesn't have to be the same name, but a matching address.
  26. ranjithkumar_yarra's avatar
i see £35 pm instead of £33 when i go through the link? I'm premium TCB member. Any pointers please?
  27. Notmyrealname1985_'s avatar
Good deal. I'm paying similar, couldn't be happier with it. Can't comment on CS as I've never had an issue meaning I needed to contact them.
