    Anyone recommend a pc build for about 1.5k?

    ryzen 7 7700 from aliexpress will play anything when paired with a decent GPU aliexpress.com/ite…OYG and can be purchased for around £151 at aliexpress, got couple from there no issues whatsoever enabling PBO/curve optimiser beats another 7700X with similar settings, silicon lottery dam it

    for the GPU i would keep an eye on ebay/ebuyer codes got the 7800xt for £380 open box from them that way and the card is new,

    for the PSU think there was a deal for 1200W gold NZXT that would be good enough for years and comes with 10 years warranty if not mistaken

    any hynix IC ddr5 5600+ prefferably in 2x32gb config would sever for many years, you can easily tighten the timings and set to 6000mt/s that would be allowing the system perform at its peak or close to that

    all other bits you may re-use your case depending on airflow or storage if no urgency to upgrade that.

    What's the best board for this in terms of price & functionality? Searching for motherboards feels like a minefield.

    Had a Tomahawk max for years and it's been great, but been looking into upgrading. (edited)

    THE fastest gaming chip on the planet for less than an i7-7700K was in 2017.
    If you are interested, the price comparison adjusted for inflation (official u.k. gov. figures) is;
    2017 U.K. price;
    i7-7700K : £339.
    March 2024 inflated price;
    (i7-7700k): £436.31p.
    We need intel as a check on A.M.D. getting greedy but they 'Suck'.

    Darn. I got in to PC building at the time the 7700K was hot off the line. Intel deserves this to be really honest. Hopefully AMD can keep the pedal to the metal and don't get complacent like Intel did but they're corporations at the end of the day and making money is what they want to do best.....

    ...."C'mon Intel, get back up!"

    I'm looking to build a new pc, currently running a 970 and old i5. Anyone able to recommend a build or where to go for advice - was planning to pair this with a 4070. Ideally don't want to go above 1300£ ish. Someone linked the following build on another thread and was wondering if it's any good. uk.pcpartpicker.com/lis…tyg

    Looks nice! The ram you have selected is ddr5-6000 cl48

    I would try get ddr5-6000 cl30
    Maybe these bad boys for £20 more?
    G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo 32GB (2x16GB) DDR5-6000 CL30 amzn.eu/d/9MQWhHr

    7800x3D apparently doesn't rely on the speeds too much so maybe you have picked a good one based on that!
    But yeah other zen4 chips 6000 is the right speed the Ryzen needs but apparently the timings can help with the frame rate lows more FPS too

    Again sorry if this advice isn't up to scratch, just learning about ddr5 as we speak currently rocking a old school build like yourself (edited)

    So explain to me how this intel processor smashes it and is about 33% cheaper?

    cpu.userbenchmark.com/Com…998

    UserBenchmark is a known joke. You'll be hard pressed to find any positive review of an AMD product on that site. (edited)

    not really imo, no

    honestly very surreal to have the current best gaming CPU (not in every title but on average) be like, what literally less than half of the top tier intel gaming CPU? i know a 14900KS isn't a totally fair comparison since it will trounce it in productivity but still.

    that memory cache advantage has been a massive coup for team red, i legit didn't think it would wind up doing so well at the time.

    this is excellent for the consumer, keeps Intel on their toes!

    Zen5 detail is coming on 27/5, expect more drop to clear out the stocks.
    Good news for whose is going to build a new PC.
    Hot.
    mmotti's avatar
    I was tempted to wait but I think I may bite. DDR5 RAM prices have come down a lot too and the motherboards don't seem to be as expensive as when I last looked.

    I can only imagine the Zen5 launch prices for performance comparable to the 7800X3D
  11. garyho1220's avatar
    Great price for a top tier CPU, currently using 5900X so I will wait for the next month and see what AMD is preparing for us.
    Hot.

    Managed to get one from AliExpress last year for £235, nice CPU. Quite disheartening to read the overseas Amazon messups, guess there is a risk factor to take on board when making a purchase like this.

    Anyone know of any simple guide to boost it to a stable status of 5000 ghz? Been using mine off standard settings so far.
    TobyJT's avatar
    Didn’t you get hit by customs if you ordered that on AliExpress? (edited)
  17. zr-o's avatar
    Now £318. Huge drop!
  18. bananabandana's avatar
    Might be slightly cheaper on Currys (£329 as of this post) if you can get discounts there. Might get them to price match too, though not sure about that.
