You can download the App or enable cec so you can use your TV remote (edited)

sad the max is not also on sale, would prefer that as it would last longer, have a couple of fire devices in the house - one that is quite old and hardly used until recently is now very, very slow and laggy. crashes often - sure that cost about £70 when new!
  3. uklemons's avatar
iplayer, itvx, 4od all free, amazon also have some free stuff

for extras look up beetv/cinemahd etc - erm firesticktricks if you want to change the launcher to wolf don't update the firmware!!!

vlc player can also stream from your pc if thats what you need - hence i dont bother with otg and additional memory etc... (edited)

Also SmartTube is great for Ad free youtube.
I mainly use Kodi, SmartTube and NowTV on mine.
Great little power efficient device, occasionally have video & audio sync issues but way better then when I first got it a year or so ago.

On my account it also lets you trade in a old fire tv stick for a for an extra 20% off
    britespark007's avatar
I was only offered £3 for my old fire stick so just kept it.

Going to become pointless for most as apparently APK side loading is going to be stopped soon

Thanks been waiting for a good deal to pick one up to replace the useless UI on my Samsung tv
  9. kester76's avatar
Just a reminder that you can't use Dolby Vision or Dolby Atmos on fire sticks without paying for the AD free subscription at £3.

I found this out recently when I tried to watch content and found both prime video and netflix are affected. Also found that whilst my TV built in Netflix supported DV + DA my TV prime video APP also had it disabled.

Intentionally crippling your device for profit is just wrong. I can understand prime video as it's a Amazon service but why Netflix had to be nerfed is beyond me. (edited)
    Crossbow's avatar
That is frustrating - contact Netflix & ask why they've let Amazon stunt their app.

Wish it was the max device, so much smoother
    paul.walshDyl's avatar
According to Amazon they have the same memory; the max has more storage and improved wifi though. Do you find it to be a faster experience?

I'm holding out for Googles next I/O event in a few weeks. Amazon can suck it. Since the last update I have had nothing but issues with my Fire Cube. That and they killed off adb just to protect their wallets.
    ImaENTP's avatar
adb is still there if you check youtube

Ordered, thanks. Was going to hold off for the new chromecast announcement but my gen 1 fire stick just died so this will do! (edited)

    Thanks
  17. blairboy121's avatar
Wasn’t the max down to about £40 at one point? They must be doing really well with these, as the price hasn’t move much over the years. I do wonder why every house doesn’t have a central server and let these little devices offload to that, just have distributed lower power with hdmi+wifi. Maybe Widi Vm’s will take off eventually. Resistance is futile, you will be virtualised. (edited)
  18. coco_cool's avatar
Can the storage be increased using an OTG adapter on this?
    Brando1's avatar

    Yes i think so (edited)
  19. Gennip's avatar
I know very little about the Fire Stick. Do you need to take out a subscription to watch programmes etc?
    hjskev's avatar
Not if you just watch catch up and free programmes.
  20. ccw71's avatar
Amazon suck! Once again, no deal for me
    ImaENTP's avatar
For what reason do they suck
  21. bbsniper's avatar
    Code not working for me
  22. mike.mendez's avatar
Can you watch live TV through these? (I don't have a smart TV and my old aerial is dying on me)
    paul.walshDyl's avatar
Sort of...you generally need to go into the app for whichever channel you want to watch. It's a pain if I'm honest I'd just look into getting your aerial sorted if I were you.
  23. Muhammadatiq's avatar
Looks like my Fire Stick collection needs another addition (even though the last one didn't come with a light bulb!)
