Details

The Grand Seiko Sport watch is a high precision quartz diver's watch, powered by Grand Seiko's unique Spring Drive Calibre. The round black dial features LumiBrite hands and indices for enhanced visibility and has a useful date window positioned at 3 o'clock.

Designed to be used in some of the most unforgiving environments, the rotating bezel is removable for simple maintenance. Nice watches but personally couldn’t imagine dropping 4k on a seiko

That makes about as much sense as saying "Couldn't imagine buying a fully decked out S Class when Mercedes also make entry level A Classes."

They're separate brands under the same corporate group.

I really want to add a Grand Seiko to my collection, alas this is not it so I'll just continue to make do with my glacier blue Prospex GMT for the foreseeable:

Both lovely watches, and at great prices.

But for me, there's something about the bezel font I don't like. I might like the hands one day but hate them the next.

The clasps are quite different as well - never seen the diver style in real life. All of my GSs have the small square clasp as with the GMT you linked.

Argh, every time I see the new GS logo styling, I get frustrated. It just doesn't work, to my eyes.

I have three Grand Seikos, all having the previous styling, which I thought was ok.

I totally understand from a branding point of view why they'd want to change it up though, since it coincided with their expansion into the non-JDM territories. Having 'SEIKO' as the headline on a £4k (and up!) watch needed addressing.

I always thought they'd be best served with just the gothic-styled 'GRAND SEIKO' at the top, and optionally have the 'GS' lettering at the bottom. Previously, it was 'SEIKO' at the top, in their standard font, with 'GS' and 'GRAND SEIKO' (gothic font) crammed in at the bottom, alonside the watch spec (Spring Drive etc).

But hey, I'm not in marketing so what do I know? I'm sure each design and variation of design would have gone to consumer panels. I've sat on them myself in the past.

Keep telling the Mrs. "If you were to leave me I could afford a GS!"
    Unfortunately she's still here

I do admire GS watches and the spring drive technology. It’s a bit under the radar unless you’re in the know and that’s not a bad thing these days ;-)

Seiko watches are usually great quality and value as you’re not just paying for the brand, but the workmanship. I’m not too aware of what goes into making the Grand Seiko watches that is vastly more expensive. Anyone know? Is it laced with gold inside?
