There's a reason why non-rechargables exist. It really depends on the usage, rechargeables are far from suitable/optimal for certain applications. If you're running something that has a low minimum voltage, and is less of a mechanical device, it's probably fine. Conversely, anything that runs a motor, speaker or light directly - without some sort of intermediary circuitry - will be faster/slower, louder/quieter, brighter/dimmer depending on the battery/series of batteries' output voltage. Of course this drops over time for all batteries however almost all rechargeables - by the nature of their technology - have a lower maximum output voltage. That's fine if you don't mind the drop in maximum performance, but the difference exists nonetheless.

In addition, rechargeables tend to passively discharge more quickly than standard batteries when. This again may or may not be a problem depending on application, a regularly used console controller, definitely better for rechargeaables, anything not used for days/weeks at a time and expected to last for a year, not so much. These are rubbish.

They didn't last 3 months in my normal wall clocks.
