217°

FOUND BY: nipperkipper 1 year, 3 months ago

Have not seen this posted

HMV give a 15% discount off your first order online with a student discount card which is obtianable from any HMV store. All you have to do is show something with a picture and expiry date (i.e ID card) and you get it.

I got it easily and my discount worked. You get a 10% discount thereafter both instore and online.

Does this apply to uni students as well? I ask 'cos some unis do not issue NUS cards to their students, so I guess I wanna know if being in possession of a NUS card is imperative for this deal?

Yes, what I did was go in with my Student ID (simply photo-card of the uni - not nus card) and they handed me the discount card.

Yeah its for uni as well

in fact i think the only way you can get it is by showing a college/uni card with a picture as i dont know if NUS cards have a picture?

I just basically showed them my uni ID card and got the discount card

Can you use the card online once you get it?

Any other shops give student discounts?

jagermeister, students become taxpayers, they aren't students forever!

I'm sure you'll be asking your cousin/brother/sister/friend/relative to use their card

Yeah because im sure students dont form a large part of the people who pay taxes to run public services e.g. alcohol and tabbaco. Alot of students also work...

Its called price discrimination. The best way a firm can maximise profits is by charging everyone what they are willing to pay. To do this they have to ensure they can separate the markets and this case its done by using a student ID card.

The same applies for concessions given to OAPs and children. I dont see people complaining there lol.

Also, why should HMV give a **** about whos paying taxes. After all its not the government that runs HMV.

Taxes on luxury goods isn't the same as heavy taxes on your pay pack... if you're a student your tax threshold is different...

Students have always got a 10% discount at HMV, you just ask for a student discount when you pay and present your uni-card or NUS card....same in most big chain stores (Vrigin/GAME/etc).

So why should discounts on luxury goods be a problem then?

Not forgeting the fact that most students are most likely the ones to be paying higher taxes in the future.
