FOUND BY: justy79 4 months, 1 week ago

EXPIRES: 16/06/2008

Been looking for Life Insurance with Terminal Illness cover for a while and this seemed like a bargain to me (if quidco tracks).

I got £200k of cover over 2 Years for £9.60 a month (Total £230.40) Plus £80 quidco and the 3000 nectar points

With Sainsbury's Life Insurance - provided by Legal & General - you can help protect your family or your mortgage from only £5 a month and if you take out a policy online before 16th June 2008, you'll receive 3000 Nectar points*.

Great benefits every step of the way:

Cover starts from just £5 a month. Your cover will depend on your individual needs and circumstances, and the premium you choose to pay.
Once your cover starts, your premiums stay the same as you get older.
Adapt your cover to fit your changing circumstances, subject to the terms and conditions.
Automatically includes terminal illness cover.
Award winning - Your Money 'Best Overall Online Provider 2007' and 'Best Online Life Insurance Provider 2007'

Ideally an individual should get professional advice when taking out any form of personal protection insurance, it simply is not about just cost but quality and level of cover also these self execution contracts are direct sales and potentially will have an adverse impact in terms of comeback on any future complaints/compensation as no professional advice was sought at time of purchase.

I'd have to agree whole-heartedly with the above comment - Take professional advice on this sort of thing. Also, as far as I'm aware, ALL life cover has terminal illness cover included because if you're terminally ill then death is assured so it's just a matter of when they pay out. Critical illness cover (cancer/heart attack/stroke etc) is a lot more expensive.

The message seems to be take professional advice as you then have someone to blame when the professional advice is rubbish. Don't we just love the insurance industry!

I tend to trust my own common sense and ability to read the small print rather than salesmen but the choice is yours.

I hope your common sense helps when it comes to dealing with the Insurers if there is a dispute about level of cover or payout.

way too expensive compared to other quotes for me. They wanted £20 pm for cover I could get for about £12 elsewhere. :(

As I understand you have taken out a single life policy but have you put the policy under TRUST? if not then any policy proceeds will form part of your estate and if over the IHT limit will be taxed at 40%.

So this 'Cheap' policy on a execution only basis (Worse case) may end up only paying £120,000 if death occurs within the 2 year period.
A similar policy through an ifa may cost an extra £100+ over 2 years but could save you £80,000 if the policy is is the plan is put under trust for your spouse/children.

Ps. Nearly ALL companies have Terminal Illness incl, however some have payment with 12 months and some pay 18 months....

Life insurance payouts to wives are not subject to IHT (in fact if you die your wife gets it all subject to your will and their is not IHT). The only difficulty arises if she passes as well and then when it goes to the kids there is IHT, or of course if your not married.

I wish the life insurance through an ifa was just £100 more over 2 years. It was more like £600 for him to set up a trust + the much more expensive cost of the policy. If I was older and had children this would matter more to me (about the trust).

Kingkano, are you saying your broker was going to charge you £600 to place the policy in trust ? if so, you should find another broker, as a broker myself, there is a simple form to complete and the policy is in trust, there should be no charge for this.
