Tower.com Feedback

POSTED BY: sparc 3 months, 3 weeks ago

"If you want tower.com deals listed then make a thread where we can get feedback so we know if it's a reputable retailer suitable for buying from UK." - Mr Admin

I don't know why we can't just use the existing thread but here we go. Ordered Blade Runner Blu Ray last Thursday and received it on Tuesday. £8.50, now expired and Google Checkout supported.

Five Stars, A+++, will use again. no damage, box immaculate, all sealed.

Used Tower on a few occasions to get CD's not available in the UK. Never had a problem with them and their service has always been faultless however that's how it should be. It is only when the customer encounters a problem that the true worth of a company becomes evident !

Whilst supporting your cause OP I hope we are going to stick to factual comments.

Shipping was very fast for your DVD's
:
International shipping takes an estimated 5-15 business days to arrive upon shipment. Please note that shipment from Tower is dependent on item availability rather than order date.
:
International Shipping Rates:
Standard Expedited Priority
MUSIC $4.99 $7.99 $9.99
VIDEO $4.99 $7.99 $9.99
BOOKS $10.99 $15.99 $18.99
Potential customers need to be aware of this clause in Tower's T@C's. I don't know the reality of that clause because I've never had a problem with them. Looks to be a risk though ?

:
RISK OF LOSS
All items purchased from Tower.com are made pursuant to a shipment contract. This means that the risk of loss and title for such items pass to you upon our delivery to the carrier. In the case of products that carry no such shipment or dispatch contract, risk of loss and title will pass to you immediately upon completion of the financial transaction during the purchase process
Potential customers also need to make themselves aware of Tower's Refund Policy as again there are risks and added expense to the International buyer.

I'll get my postman to swear an oath that my version of events are correct. DanDoc can be my character witness.

Thats how it happened, very surprised and wouldn't hesitate to use them again even if the cost difference is marginal compared to a UK retailer.

It may actually have been sent from a warehouse over here, Royal Mail 2nd class prepaid and theres a UK postcode on the box too.

No need to get defensive, I wasn't accusing anyone of anything, merely stating facts.

Tower Records used to trade in the UK with several outlets around the country and notably the flagship shop in London. They were exceptionally good but actually only a franchise from the American based Tower operation.

Tower as a whole fell on bad times in the USA and was wound up at least once. It is only in recent times that Tower has started operating again.
Tower in the UK no longer exists. The stores were sold off and Virgin (now Zavvi) purchased the London stores.

For a full story of Tower have a look on here

I am extremely surprised your packet was delivered from a UK address. Whilst this explains the quick delivery it doesn't explain where the heck it came from ??
I assume you ordered off Tower.com ??

Like I say it's good to get all the facts before one purchases from International sites and even if you haven't had a problem it doesn't mean to say that you won't have in the future and therefore important to know what the pitfalls may be.

Like I already write please don't take things personally, there's no need, just stick to facts

I too took advantage of the Cloverfield and 3:10 to Yuma blu-ray cheap prices at Tower.com.
Went through Google Checkout, the whole process was simple and easy.
I was impressed with the delivery speed - took 4 days from receipt of the dispatch email from them to the discs being in my hands! Which is definitely quicker than other US retailers I've used in the past!

Posted in the usual jiffy bags, and shipped from the UK to my address (None of the usual customs declarations on the outside package)

Overall, I'm very happy with the service I've received!

My experience is "fairly" good with a couple of minor niggles. Delivery was exceptional.

Ordered Blade Runner 5 Disc HD DVD on Saturday 21/6, stated it would be shipped within 12 hours (Site actually states that according to that at least within 1 working day.

Come 24/6, order was still in the process of "being packed", emailed them and received a day later 25/6 a email back stating "We are currently experiencing a delay in fulfilling your order. The estimated shipping date for your item is 06/30/2008. We apologize for this inconvenience. "

However three hours after I received this, I had an email stating that my order had been shipped?!?!

So despatched on the 25/6 and arrived today 2/7 took exactly a week to arrive, not too bad at all. Also noticed that the cardboard box it was shipped in has a UK address second class Royal Mail business post. Looks to me like Tower ship them to a holding address in the UK whereby they are shipped out to customers.

Good delivery, cautious of the dispatch time errors.
