New Mega Train routes from Glasgow to Birmingham £2.50 return or £1.50 single/ other routes available too (services run by Virgin Trains) @ Megabus Starts 14/07/2008

£1.50

FOUND BY: hotscot 2 months, 6 days ago

STARTS: 14/07/2008

They stopped these a while back, but have now returned from 14th July, just tried this out.
Glasgow to Birmingham 14th July return 22nd July £4.50.
But other dates I have found are from £1.50 single ie Glasgow /Birmingham a return 30th July to 6th August £2.00 return plus 50p booking fee = £2.50.....now that is cheap.

Or singles £1 plus 50p booking fee.
They have added other journeys too ie from Edinburgh, see website for journeys timetables available.

The trains you catch are run by Virgin trains and tickets only available for certain trains.

Just my luck I need to travel on the 10th July and it's going to cost me £30 single on normal train sites, this is how i came across this, I could'nt see it posted before.

awesome! Does the mega train operate like normal train (i.e. they have stops in between along the way) or just two stops from Brimingham to Glasgow non-stop? Does anyone know? Cos I want to meet my friend who can pop in at Derby station. Thanks!!

They ARE normal trains. Just the tickets are sold by someone else. You'll be on the same train as people paying normal rail fares.

You aren't allowed to break your journey with these tickets, i.e. you get on where you say and you get off at the end. And nowhere in between. So your friends could join you on the same train if they like, but you couldn't get off to meet them. Or rather you could get off but the ticket is only valid on that train so you'd need to get straight back on again.

It's the same trains as Virgin cross country,I used this before they stopped these routes, it's usually 1 carraige they set aside for the cheaper tickets, but no difference at all, except they are soooo much cheaper

So this is *from* Glasgow to Birmingham only (from the starting location)?

I did it from Birmingham to Glasgow and only got the bus fares. Shame, I wouldn't have minded a few days up in Glasgow.

*EDIT* Just tried again with different dates, it seems that booking too far ahead in August was the issue. £2 single is too good to miss out on.

I love cheap stuff as much as the next man, but they don't need to sell tickets for a quid. If rail companies just sold tickets for a reasonable price in the first place, the trains would be packed.

A flexible return ticket from Birmingham to London off peak - that will be £61, thanks. For a 90 minute journey.
