2 for 1 membership on Streetcar

£49.50

What is it?
Streetcar is pay as you go driving. You book 'streetcars' dotted around london on an hourly basis and only pay 6pounds per hour driving. You get a daily 30 mile allowance.

You don't have to worry about MOT, insurance, parking permits, petrol, cleaning etc etc.

In conjunction with Oyster, streetcar are offering 2 for 1 annual membership. that's a saving of £49.50. Total cost to you is only £25 when split between 2 people.

Simply select 'Oyster' when asked how you heard of them. See direct link for more details.

My girlfriend and I both use them and they're great for infrequent drivers needing to make the odd trip here and there. There are streetcars just down my street. Wish i knew about this deal when i signed up last week. Their fleet are all brand new VW Golfs.

You can see whether there is a streetcar near you by looking at http://www.streetcar.co.uk/locationslist.aspx and punching in your postcode.

Nice find, one thing i noticed though is that in the channel 5 video it said £25 for a lifetime membership, but now its £49.50 per year, which seems to make a big difference to me.

I've been using Streetcar for several months now, and I have been very impressed. They also do vans by the hour, which are great for moving home or picking up an eBay purchase at short notice.

For me the selling point is the convenience of having a car within two minutes of my house. This makes it handy for short local trips. I have also used it for a camping holiday, and although the price ended up being more than the cheapest car rental alternative, there were two major benefits; flexibility - because I am easily able to change the pick up and drop off times, but mainly because I know I can relay on their customer service.

These guys will bend over backwards to help, and are always available on the phone. So if the worst happened and I had broken down on a lonely road in the middle of the new forest, I know I could relax in the knowledge that they would sought things out.

They used to charge £150 for life time membership and an additional deposit, now they charge £49.50 per year which includes the deposit. There is a £500 excess to pay in the event of an accident, but you can lower this amount be paying an excess waiver.

I would recommend Streetcar to anyone, and I have been!

Not really a deal, as they have really put up their prices.

When they first started a few years ago it was free, they just kept a refundable deposit of £300 odd I think.

Then they changed it to a lifetime fee and now it's got successful, it a yearly fee.

remember you still have to pay the hourly fee etc etc.

but I guess in lots of cases still a great service and in some cases still cheaper and more convenient than normal rental cars.

Agreed, it is not for everyone. If you're only looking to rent a car once a year, its an awful deal. But if you live in London, like the idea of driving around London maybe once, twice, or more a month, then this looks like the perfect way. Plus the cars are quite new and economical models, so saves on the petrol!

So you pay 50 for yourself, then 25 for your partner.

50 for the both of you still sounds cheaper.

I don't like it - you have to return the cars to the exact spot you take it from!

It'd probably be cheaper to buy an old banger for a hundred quid, keep it in storage, and insure it on the day.

lol, not quite sure who would 'like the idea of driving around London'.... I had to drive my Nan to a hospital in SE London the other day, took me over 3hrs to do a 19mile journey
