Its only the insertion fees that are dropped - but with the charges they changed recently - you are paying far more even with the discount than you were before they made the changes.

Ebay has a monopoly position which it abuses.

Also - take your money out of Paypal each time is excedes 50 quid (if that is still the minimum they dont charge for) - as Paypal have decided 18 months ago to keep just under 200 quid Quidco put into my Paypal account (until I can produce my 'ID card').

Paypal are now based in Luxembourg.

Greedy ebay were recently fined £31.6m for selling fake goods.

Should have been more, the amount they make on bootlegs is outrageous, heck there are even power sellers who sell counterfeit and copyright material and ebay rarely take any action on those.

No they were not. They were ordered to pay that sum for allowing fake goods to be sold. There is a difference.

I think he meant that Ebay themselves didn't sell the goods, they allowed them to be sold on their site.

It was a fine, just because the money has to be paid to the copyright owners does not mean it was not a fine...

Hi

Re: Greedy ebay were recently fined £31.6m for selling fake goods.

The OFT should also come down on them and make them have proper Customer Care contact phone lines.

we all call ebay but its the best way for us to sell items we would normally give / throw (in a lot of cases) for a charge which is cheaper than renting a shop - carbooting -

Do not list "Buy It Now" items early on the 8th! Leave it until the evening or pay 6p extra and have it scheduled later that day. This should remove the chance of buyers buying on the 8th and sending payment on that day as well. Here's why it's important that they don't pay you via Paypal until the day after...

This will make for some interesting discussion, I posted this back in the last thread when eBay had a cheap listing day and now the following is more relevant than ever...

Received an email from Paypal on 13th June 2008 with the following extract..

Paypal:
Effective from 9 July 2008, PayPal will change its fee structure to make it more attractive for our UK customers to send personal payments. We are pleased to announce that:

1) PayPal will not charge a recipient (regardless of their account type) of a PayPal payment if that payment was funded by the sender's bank account or PayPal balance and it is designated a Personal Payment

2) PayPal will apply a fee for payments received for Personal Payments or Commercial Payments if such a payment is funded by a credit or debit card, however for Personal Payments funded by a card, the sender will have the option of paying the fees for that payment

3) Also, PayPal will no longer require its customers to upgrade from a Personal Account to a Premier or Business Account once it has received a total of £250
For 1) Thank god the payment options default to bank funded and so all those that rush through the Paypal checkout will end up sending money that doesn't get taxed to hell and back once the seller receives it! No more losing 3.4% + 20p of the incoming money

For 2) where it says the sender has the option of paying the fees that the receipient would normally incur; I can't really see anyone wishing to voluntarily pay 3.4% + 20p on top of what they're already paying. Ok, for low amounts of money that percentage might not be much but once you get into the hundreds that percentage works out to be a sizeable amount of extra money. Nice try Paypal but no buyers are going to fall for this one

Now, the important part. Do you go for the cheaper listing fee on the 8th, or wait a day and then not get charged fees on receiving money via Paypal? The answer is obvious, I hope

I list something on the 8th for 5p, it sells a week later on the 15th ~ Would accepting Paypal payment on the 15th (or later) for an auction listed on the 8th follow the old fee payment structure?
