Anyone help setting up wireless broadband?

Well - I have mine attached to my tower PC in the sitting room but my daughter can use her laptop in her bedroom with no wires (and he could use his desktop in his bedroom with no wires attached when he lived at home!). We thought he could maybe do the reverse of what I'm doing - if you see what I mean.
What he actually wants to achieve is to be able to use broadband on his desktop in his room. At the moment his landlady can use her laptop in the ounge using a cable connected to the telephone line and her laptop.
Gosh - does this make it any clearer? HELP

I assume wireless is enabled in the router software etc? (permit the wireless devices IP address)

You need either a wireless Access point attached to the Broadband modem or a Wireless ADSL Router which does both (ADSL modem and Wireless Access Point), once either of these are in place then you can start setting up a wireless network.

Actually, modem/routers don't need to be attached to any computers. They work on their own and computers connect to them either through a wired ethernet connection or a wireless connection. (wireless is new and not as good as ethernet, which why it's still availible).

To set it up you'd generally plug the router into a power socket and the wall socket (via a microfilter usually). You then connect all the computers to it either via wired or wireless.

Desktops don't come with wireless as often as laptops so your son may need to buy a wireless networking card for his desktop.

It needs to be wired to set the thing up otherwise you wont be able to use the thing in the first place. Unless u get a router that allows computerless setup.

As long as your using the modem your ISP sent you i've always found they don't need setting up, just basically plug and play. From their you can access the modem wirelessly to do the rest of the configuration.
