On another topic. - A colleague of mine phoned up orange to cancel, stating she was offered a new contract with a free laptop. Orange said to keep her they would crdit £400 to the account for the laptop, and give an upgrade. So dont just upgrade, go for the full works!
If you go to retentions and say you are going to leave, they will be have the powers to offer you a Personal Discount Allowance specifically relating to your contract. This can be used to reduce the Talkplan costs, or give you free accessories. If you just go through to the upgrade dept. you will not be given this discount. They might take £5 off and make you think that you are getting a good deal.
The fact your friend got a £400 'laptop' credit, was probably due to the fact that she already had this allowance on her account in the event that she wanted to leave. Note: any discount applied to a retention deal will only last for as long as the new contract.
As for the iPhone vs. Omnia (lets exclude the Diamond as it seems to be regarded as a bit of a gimic), I picked this up from another site:-
Samsung i900 Resolution 240 x 400 pixels VS. iPhone 3G’s 320 x 480 pixels
Samsung Omnia advertised battery is 5.80 hours, delivered 4 hours and 20 minutes of talk time VS. iPhone 3G advertised 10.00 hours, delivered 4 hours 27 minutes of talk time
Samsung has MicroSD card slot (iphone has none)
Much better 5 megapixel camera (better processing, higher resolution, face and smile detection, geotagging) vs. same old 2.0 megapixel camera.
TV-out (iphone lacks that)
TouchWiz user interface VS multi-touch interface.
Microsoft Window Mobile 6.1 Professional VS Mac OS X v10.4.10
Copy/Paste performance ( iphone offers none)
Omnia offers voice dialing and recording, but the iphone 3g still missing those features.
The new 3g Iphone does not appear to be any better than the original......which is a shame.
Hype over substance me thinks !!!
