tax changes - most of us will have extra £60 in september pay

POSTED BY: holly100 3 months, 3 days ago

New tax measures come into force this month that should see about 22 million people receive a rebate of around £60.

It all stems from the U-turn by the chancellor on plans to scrap the lowest 10 pence tax band, following pressure from backbench MPs to ease its impact.

The new measures will mean basic rate taxpayers see a tax saving of £120.

Firstly they will receive a lump sum of £60 in their September pay packet. Their net pay will then rise by £10 per month for the rest of this tax year.

its in addition but will probably only be for 1 year.

it was made after the governments totally farcical decision to abolish the 10% tax band not realising it would mean the lowest paid being worse off despite the government having a whole year to do the sums!

So, now they bribe the public by paying the tax rebate to everyone thus the lowest paid are not paying more tax and the rich pay even less tax

You couldnt make it up.

Expect round 2 of this sorry saga to continue next April as Darling cannot afford to do this indefinitely as we have a nationalised bank and its losses to support now (Northern Rock!).

I am in a low tax bracket my husband in high. Believe it or not we still struggle.
Why? because the Government feels the company car my husband takes from the house by 6am Monday - Friday is exactly what my 3 children need to live on exempting us from tax credits. They feel that the 100 mile per day round trip (he pays for his diesel -which was encouraged- himself) should not be tax exempt. The fuel increases cost us £100 per month so to be quite honest if I got a £60 rebate in September it would help a great deal with Christmas & 5 birthdays all within the next 6 months looming. Even if it was just once it's better than nothing. BTW the joke of it is I'm the one that is a civil servant!

Everyone who is working and paying tax will get this I believe. Depends if you are on statutory maternity pay only or your employer pays you a fixed term wage whether you will get this I reckon.

If just on statutory maternity pay then I doubt you will give this as it is a reduction in your tax code for the month and you dont pay tax when on statutory maternity pay as its below the tax threshold.

Not 100% on this though as I'm a bloke
