Dog Whisperer - stages of aggression

POSTED BY: agnes 3 months, 2 days ago

Can anyone help me with this? I remember in one of the Dog Whisperer progs Cesar Milan talked about the 4 (or maybe 5) stages of aggression, I think the first one was "staring". Can anyone remember what they were? You are supposed to be able to stop dog aggresion buidlng into a fight by interupting the stages.

yeah seen some of that, other signs were raised hackles and tail, what is it you are trying to achieve?

My brother's dog is "not very friendly" towards our puppy. We want to nip this in the bud by recognising the signs and intervening early. He does stare quite a bit, so we try to distract him but it would help to know other stages.

sounds like a dominance thing, ideas i've seen are giving the dog a tap on the side and hissing when he starts this. but must be done consistently for a good few days.
Problem is this is usually in a dominant dog ie he thinks he's the pack leader, so curing that first will poss be necessary as he will only take a "telling off" to heart from those above him in the pecking order.
To get the mesg across he is low down in the pack,
feed him after you,
remove uneaten food after 15mins,
make sure he is always below you in relaxing, sleeping etc no up on the couch etc
google other techniques on assertion of dominance.
Another route to him liking the pup is taking a blanket the pup has slept on, and placing it under the food bowl so he associates the smell with good things.
best of luck and post some puppy pics, too many cats on here lol

Hi,

I've been after the Dog Whisperer stuff but to buy off fleabay was too expensive. I've got a 12 year old terrier who wants to kill every dog in its path. I've watched a few programmes and this week have tried a few corrections (on me & the dog) and amazingly they are working.

Just a few moments ago I found you could get quite a few bits off play.com! I've just ordered the DS guide/game, a book and a dvd (my player plays region 1). Found a 5% discount code as well GJSQRLCJVF

If you do order the dvds delivery is free too even though they come from the States.

Link to the stuff I found is http://www.play.com/Search.aspx?sear...arch&pa=search
