Philips Streamium WAC3500D Wireless Music Centre £120 in store only @ ASDA was £149

£120.00

FOUND BY: Degeneratemoo 3 months, 1 day ago

STARTS: 03/09/2008

Was in Asda earlier and saw they have the Philips Streamium WAC3500D/05 Wireless Music Centre. It's got a big yellow and red stickers on it saying "£149.99 (£299.99 at Comet)", the shelf labels say £120.00 so I asked and it's now down to £120, it's still listed as £299.99 on the Philips website. The shop assistant told me Asda were selling them at a loss.

Looks a pretty good system, it has CD, an 80gig HD, an ipod dock, a front USB port which you can play music from and it supports wireless music transfer (not sure if that's only to other Philips devices...) and with the firmware update it also supports internet radio!

I'll link to the Philips website below which has all of the specs.

Only slight problem with the system is it only supports mp3's with a bit rate between 128k and 320k and WMA (but I can't remember the bit rates for that) so it wouldn't be suitable for those using lossless formats.

Here is the link to the Philips website with the specs.

This site is a user forum for all of the Streamium products.

For those that want to read up before buying, here is the user manual in pdf format.

Oh yeah, forgot to say, if anyone does buy this a user has written a useful program for managing the streamium devices from a PC including adding and removing mp3's from the HD. It's called Wachandler.

How have you found it? Is the sound quality any good?

Hi,

I've called the Charlton, Bexley Heath and the super walmart store down south, to no avail - anyone else had any success finding this?

Nice find OP.

I used to want something like this, but i found a £4 FM transmitter from dealextreme, which draws power from USB and is connected to the sound output of my Imac, but any computer will do. I can listen to music, internet radio, podcasts from all over my house by tuning the radios to 107.5 (my chosen frequency).

Even better, i can now use my iphone as a remote control anywhere in the house (using the wifi network). The sound quality is excellent, I used 2 extension cables to move the transmitter 1 meter away from the computer which dramatically improves the FM signal. (is it the antenna or the reduced interference?). Of course all the radios are in perfect Sync moving from room to room.

Can't recommend this solution enough...worth a try at £7.65 all in. Infact i routinely use this to listen to radio4 because i get better reception through my internet stream than the local FM broadcast.

heres the SKU's if you want to browse...
02660 USB Male-Male Connector Plug $1.46
00625 Fm Transmitter Full Range USB Port C007B Black HEJAN $7.88
05157 3.5mm Audio Extension Cable (1.5M) $1.60
02510 Translucent 5ft USB 2.0 Extension Cable $2.64

I suspect that this item will drop in price now Logitech have announced the Squeezebox Boom. All depends what quality you want.

I've had one of these since jan (bought from Comet for £299)

Its a really nice sounding system - its not the most user friendly, but the wachandler program goes some way to fixing that.

I didn't feel ripped off at £300.

You can stream files from a pc running mediaplayer 11, it will also play of usb / ipods (it comes with a dock)

it is a bit anoying that you cant add content to the hard drive using usb - and I haven't found a way for other devices on my network to read content off the Philips as a UPnP server (i.e. see the hdd library on the wac through media player 11).

all in all - Its a great system for £120

Don't expect there's any way to back up the music on the drive?

This is the only thing that concerns me.

Hot deal.
