Advice on 40" Sony or Panasonic tvs please.

Hello,

I am looking for a hd 40"ish tv as a present. Unfortunately they know a lot more than I do and seem to like Sony or Panasonic tvs.

I have been looking at sony kdl-40v4000 and kdl-40v3000 but am now completely confused. Looking to spend between 600-800ish so was wondering how good these tvs are, and what is the difference?

Thank you for the replies, Iv had a search around and done some research I just dont know what is considered a good tv. I was just wondering what was the difference between those two, whether one was better and opinion of anyone who had one maybe?

go for sony far superior build quality, amazing picture quality, recently bought the kdl40v3000 just under 620 quid with 5 yr warranty from richer sounds.
Lots of posts recently where deals are available with sony 40" tv and blueray player with 5 year warranty.
I searched on the av forums befor i made my decision what to buy.

A lot of people rate the Sony KDL40W4000, it is about £865 delivered from Dixons at the mo. This site will give you a rough guide to prices in general:
