Help re: Royal Mail 1st Class Recorded

POSTED BY: alisonfitz 2 months, 4 weeks ago

Hi-does anyone know anything about making a claim? I sent three ebay items by 1st class recorded last Wednesday. One was left on a neighbours doorstep-not signed for and no card left but fortunately the buyer did get it in the end. So that's fine but the other two have not been received and there is no infomation when I check the tracking numbers.

How long do you have to wait to make a claim? I know I am covered for £36 will I get the full £36 back?

Thanks

There is a form online you need to fill in to make a claim.

You will have to include a copy of your recorded slip / receipt, and will need to print off something showing the value (i.e. the ebay auction with the final sale price on).

You should get the full value, if it is less than £34 (or is it £36 now?). When I have claimed in the past, they gave me the postage cost too once, and didn't the othe time.

It takes a while for it all to be processed as well, I am still waiting for a claim to be settled from June. R.M. may also write to the recipient to check if they have received the parcel even if there is no tracking info online. If they don't reply it's harder to get your money back.

Thanks I've repped you all. It's more annoying because one of the items was something I bought off ebay but they sent me the wrong thing so I had to return it to the seller for a refund! And i paid £75 pound and I stupidly took a chance on 1st class recorded.

Had the same sort of problem. Bought some DVDs off a guy on Ebay that he claimed were genuine. Turned out they were copies so returned by RD. They went missing but because the guy wouldn't confirm to Royal Mail they hadn't been received back by him, they wouldn't pay me any compensation. Had to file a paypal dispute in the end.

you have to send RM the ORIGINAL recorded slip (keep a photocopy). And send that recorded too as they lost that too when I tried to claim.

they wouldnt accept a photocopy (all I had left) so I had to claim £34 for the loss of the recorded slip lol!

Correct!

Although technically you weren't covered using recorded to send the slip, should have sent special delivery with consequential loss insurance!!!

I made a claim for a missing recorded parcel and it was resolved and I had my cheque within 2 weeks, as I only sent the recorded slip i only got 75p postage back, so remember to send the receipt showing how much you paid.

You need to be careful claiming for the items worth £75, you're only covered for I think £36 with Recorded Delivery, and I think if you say the item is worth more than that you might not be entitled to anything, it's like under-insuring something - check before you claim, it might be worth just saying it was was £36 otherwise you run the risk of getting nothing back.

Call in to your local post office and have a chat with the counter staff, they're usually really helpful and know how to work the system!!!

Thanks for your help! They didn't know at my local post office I'll be really annoyed if this is the case! I'll only have ebay proof that it cost £75 and a copy of a letter from the seller telling me to return it! I'll keep my fingers crossed that it turns up.

yes. its not like insurance under valuations.

I claimed for £45 and they paid me £32 plus postage charge (32p was 1st class cost then).
