It depends on what I was going to be doing with it.
Playing games and such I would choose PC over MAC.
Photo/Video editing and business stuff the MAC is better.

With the way that it works on HotUKdeals most people end up with preferring all the hot deals, this means have them all: Windows, MAC and Linux.

Macs rule!

I had the 3rd G5 iMac in the country - paid well over the odds to ensure I got it on launch! Was the best most reliable computer I've ever owned.

Sadly the ex Mrs OfnPanad kept it when we split. I have just now worked my bum off enough to indulge myself and buy a 2nd hand iBook to replace my Windows laptop.

Happy days

PS - Yes, they are overpriced when comparing the spec with a Windows laptop...but you are also paying for ease of use, reliability, lack of malicious hackers writing viruses...and of course there's few Windows laptops that can touch iBooks/MacBooks for style

Macs everytime for me - they are so much easier to use even I can find out what's wrong with it if anything goes wrong and it's really not that often it happens. If my PC at works goes wrong I have no clue.

Plus yes I paid more for what I would have if I had bought a PC at the time but my Mac can still keep up with the best of them and it's about 8 years old now

Well a mac is a PC now so guess you are talking bout operating systems which then means a choice between osx, windows or linux.
Windows and osx have been around for years yet approx 90%+ of the market is PC's running windows, wonder why that is?

think because people mainly use them for design wise stuff.. not as an everyday comp. but yes you can do pretty much the same on either.. i think its just prefrence.

It's kind of a pointless argument, as has already been mentioned it depends what you are using it for.

Wanna play games? No point buying a MAC really.

Wanna do graphics? May as well get a MAC

Then again most graphics progs run well on a Windows machine too, so it is all down to personal preference.

I prefer PC as it is what I know, but MACs are sexy

Mac every time for me. They're better in every single way that matters to me, except for games. But then I suppose that's what games consoles are for.

I've lost count of the amount of time I've spent trying to fix Windows machines with one random problem or another that has left a computer completely unusable, but I've never once had a show stopping problem on a Mac. That's not to say there aren't problems, of course there are but they're a drop in the ocean compared to Window issues.

I also like Linux in principal, and love tinkering around with it and tearing up the command line. But that's the problem with it, there's too much tinkering to be done before it's actually useful. Whereas Macs are useful straight out of the box, my productivity is much higher on a Mac than anything else.

For me that's well worth an extra few £, although that said I think the expense of Macs is vastly over reported, if you compare like for like instead of just the headline figure of CPU and RAM then Macs often come out the same or cheaper that the equivalent Windows machine, particularly when taking into account software as well.

I've spent far too long on Windows (decade easily) to just switch to another O/S - so I'm sticking with it.

I find it easy to manipulate and tinker with.. often dive into the command prompt and so on, there's plenty of features that the average joe doesn't know about . Vista gives me some headaches but I haven't had a fatal crash in many years.. more often than not any problem can be fixed with little effort.

Decade is that all , I've been using Windows since the days when you still had to drop out to DOS to run half the programs you needed. Believe me switching is a piece of cake, even my parents can use OSX easily. The real proof for me is the fact since my dad brought a Mac last June he has called me for help less times than in just one month of using his old Windows machine. The really ironic thing is that his VPN connection to a Windows network at work is actually more stable on his Mac than it ever was on Windows.

Yeah you're right, most Windows issues are fixable with some effort. But that's the problem for me, that's what I really don't get about die hard Windows users (which I must confess to being myself until I actually gave the alternatives a real go) - you shouldn't have to spend that amount of time getting something working the way it should (which is why Linux will never be a threat until it starts coming pre-installed on more machines). You wouldn't buy a TV and expect to have to tinker with it for hours before you can actually do the things you brought it for, so why should a computer be any different? But maybe that's just me and a symptom of not having the time to sit and tinker with things on my own machines anymore?

Where's the fun in having something work properly for once.... that'd just be boooring .

I even had to tweak FireFox 3 cause it was hammering my HD.. see.. everything must be tweaked.
