ID for internal flights

POSTED BY: Emma-lee 2 months, 2 weeks ago

Hey guys
I'm after a bit of advice, my boyfriend is training down in Reading for 4 weeks and the company said anyone traveling back up north could get free flights for the weekend.
He thought he'd have to stay down in reading for the whole time but would love to come home for a few days. Would he need ID for an internal flight within the UK? He doesn't drive or have a current passport only thing he has on him is a bank card. Would he be able to get a flight? He would probably be flying from London to Newcastle.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Emma-lee x

I'm pretty sure they changed it so now days regardless of where you are flying you need a passport

On UK Internal flights, you need an official form of photo ID if you are an adult - this can be a passport or a driving license. They will not accept a bank card.

I found this randomly, i guess it depends with who you travel

Jet2.com recommends you travel with a valid passport on UK domestic flights but will accept one of the following as an alternative, providing it includes a photograph and is valid on the date of travel:

EU or Swiss national ID card
CitizenCard
Driving licence
Student ID card (international, National Union of Students or University/College ID)
Armed forces ID card
Police warrant card/badge
Airport employees security ID pass
Government issued ID card
Official Company ID card
Electoral ID card (EIC issued to eligible N Ireland citizens)
UK Council issued bus pass (Senior Citizens only)
Fire Arms certificate

He has a company ID card that i guess i could post down to him, just don't want to get my hopes up that he can come home when he can't. What a pain, just wish he'd sorted out his passport earlier.

yeh there are some companies that can be a bit picky about no passport, but after a bit of waiting they will confirm that a driving license is good enough.

Ah thats true, to be honest it is probably not worth the hassle because it would be a Friday night flight then back on Sunday. Thanks for your advice though, much appreciated.

When I flew BMIBaby from Edinburgh to Birmingham in July I had to show my passport (US Citizen, legal resident alien) which was new for me for a domestic flight.
