Places I would recommend to eat are a really nice wee indian place on Renfield Street (near Glasgow Central Station) called Charcoals. Also you can get some very nice Italian food at the Italian Kitchen on Ingram Street in the Merchant City area. There are two really good Mexican places too, one is called Salsa in Cadogan Place just across the river on the Southside of the city. The other is in the Merchant City on Bell Street next to one of my favourite pubs Blackfriars which is a hit with the ale drinkers.
If you're feeling a bit more adventurous then get a taxi out to West brewing Company on the edge of Glasgow Green, it's run by a Scottish guy and his German wife and they brew their own German-style beers on the premises, the Hefeweizen is excellent! They also do good food in there too and fresh pretzels you can wash down with the beer.
Other good bars more central are Bar Ten and The Lab which are just off Buchanan Street, both are worth a visit. Nearer where you are on Sauchiehall Street you have pubs like the Bierhof which is under the Rawalpindii Indian Restaurant (also worth a visit). Another indian worth a visit up that way is the Kama Sutra which I'd highly recommend. There are also lots of good pubs and stuff on Bath Street which runs parallel to Sauchiehall Street.
There's a Cineworld which has lots of screens just off Sauchiehall Street, there's also the GFT (Glasgow Film Theatre) which shows more arthouse films. Just remembered that there's also a really nice place called Thai Lemongrass across from the Cineworld on Renfrew Street (off Sauchiehall Street) which is well worth a visit. There's also the Jongleurs Comedy Club also on Renfrew Street and there's The Stand Comedy Club on Woodlands Road.
In terms of clubs you'll find no shortage of places, the studenty ones are places like the Garage on Sauchiehall Street, if y ou like Rock music there's the Cathouse on Union Street, there are lots of other more dance-oriented places like The Tunnel, The Arches and Sub Club. There are lots of other places and plenty of live music venues so I would recommend getting a hold of a copy of The List when you arrive as it lists everything that's on in the city in terms of gigs and stuff with reviews of everywhere too.
