OH been banned??

Could someone please explain if we have breeched forum rules?? I have searched on the site but cannot find the answer. My OH has a similar name to mine but a different email address. He has been been banned permanently for having a multiple user ID, how is this when he has a different email address or are you not allowed to have 2 people with an account at the same home address??
He is unable to contact a mod as there is no button for him to do so now he is banned

Your are supposed to contact the team if you have more than one user using the same internet connection, although how people are supposed to know this is beyond me, also only one of you will be able to use the fs boards

Thanks, I didn't know this. Hopefully now I have contacted them they will sort this. He only uses it occssionally but was annoyed last night when he saw he was banned. It is only me that uses the fs board anyway. But no this is not clear. Thank you for your help

What happens if you're using a company connection? Would everyone from the company using the boards be banned? How would you know if others in your company had an account? It doesn't sound very well thought out.

as the op and artner had similair names, someone prob picked up on it. I dont think anyones isp (or whatever its called) is checked unless some suspicion is raised

why would you want two seperate accounts anyway?
it just seems like to much trouble to me to keep logging on and off as different users.
i constantly have me logged in and the OH will just come and browse when she pleases.

We don't all use just one computer. Wouldn't let the wife near mine (and no not for THAT reason )

Thinking about it, not sure if I should contact the mods or not as i'm skanking somebody else's net connection at the moment and theres always the off chance that they might sign up for an account after my 'advertising' campaign......

I agree. I wasn't making an issue. Just the way that some innocent things seem to invoke a ban.

We have a different log in on one commputer so it automatically logs us in to our own accounts. He doesn't use it very often but I prefer us to have seperate accounts. Besides it makes Hotukdeals look even more popular with more members. It does seem a little silly but hopefully it will be sorted asap now that he has contacted the mods

I think what will happen is if someone has been banned the admin will look at the ip address and they can see if the user has more than one name it doesnt matter about the e mail address in the slightest.Thats what our site does anyway with me being admin there i can tell if there is more than one user on one ip address.

Maybe a PM should be sent out asking before banning them, as people said, there are various reasons why people have the same IP address, for example, we share our internet connection with next door. Or as someone has pointed out, as a lot of people post from work.

I suppose you can glean some info from the IP address itself - a RDNS on a university/big org IP will obviously have a meaningful hostname to stop the ban hammer.
