This month, one lucky reader and a friend will enjoy a fantastic trip to South Africa, courtesy of Fairhills. The winners will fly to Cape Town with their guest, where they'll spend three days exploring the delights of the country's oldest city. The pair will stay at the luxurious, nautical-themed City Lodge V&A Waterfront hotel, which is ideally located on the vibrant harbour, with its restaurants and shops.
From Cape Town, the winner and guest will go on to discover the beauty, culture and tradition of Stellenbosch, the inland region in which so many of South Africa's finest wines are produced. The intimate Edwardian Caledon Villa Guest House in the historic university town of Stellenbosch will be their base for the four-night stay.
This exciting trip will take the lucky winners off the beaten track for a guided tour of the Fairhills Fairtrade project, where they'll see first-hand the work of the Fairhills Association. They'll tour the vineyards and visit the craft shops, before enjoying a personalised tasting of the wines in Fairhills' vaulted tasting rooms. And when the sun goes down, they'll feast upon local delicacies, and unwind in style. At the end of their trip, they'll then spend a final night in Cape Town, before flying home.
The Fairhills Association was set up in 2005 to provide local farmers and their families with better living and working conditions, as well as a fair price for their grapes. It's been a huge success, and over the past three years, worldwide sales of Fairhills Fairtrade wines have contributed to life-changing developments for the local community, including better access to education, healthcare and employment. The venture in South Africa has been so successful in fact that the Fairhills Association is now running similar projects in the principal wine-producing regions of Argentina and Chile.
