Cheap tat at best.
My wife bought some jeans there once and when it rained the color ran onto her expensive leather boots which cost over £100 and Matalan did nothing.
We even paid to get them independently tested and it came back that the jean dye had run.
Even then they only offer my wife a £10 voucher.
Avoid this company and their clothing like the plague.
I think you'll find that people shop at Matalan because it is cheap. Unfortunately not all of us can afford boots which cost over £100!
