If you have anxiety that is adversely affecting your life you can seek help from your GP or NHS 111.

As somebody who has battled anxiety extensively over a number of years I would like to share some advice if you are looking to try and eliminate it from your life.

There are 2 books which have helped me immensely; The Power of Now (Eckhart Tolle) and Essential Help for your Nerves (Claire Weekes).

These 2 books combined will give you an understanding of what is happening in your body and the cycle you get stuck in, as well as a fresh new approach to life by living in the present moment and not stuck in the future.

The NHS and other forms of counselling are a good "start" but they never did much for me, the 'fix' comes from within yourself, with time and understanding you will eventually beat it.

Mindfulness is useful, 10 minutes a day with a guided meditation can help, it will show you that you can be still and quiet and just let the moment be what it is for a while.

Happy to help anybody if they wish to message, otherwise good luck on your journey. This book might be useful but I am just giving methods that have worked for me personally.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I too have been fighting the fight for 2 decades now. I found cbt did nothing for me though that could have been down to poor counsellors.

You’re right about cycles though. So easy to fall into a negative cycle and start focusing on stressful things to come rather than living in the present.

I get depression too and my worst trait is struggling to take positive action to look after myself. I’ve made a commitment to myself to change that this year.

I’ll be sure to check those books out.

Be aware that others in your Amazon family group can see what you download. Books like Dealing with Narcissism, Emotional Abuse and Gaslighting may raise the eyebrows of your significant captor.

It's written by AI. Not someone who has felt anxious for even a second. You may as well take advice from your kettle.

I would question why AI books claiming to treat medical conditions are allowed on HUKD. Might as well start shilling rabbits feet.

Try going to the gym and eating healthily, before depending on medication. I've been there and trust me the meds mess you up but a change of lifestyle can make a big difference.

Having been on a number of CBT courses (didn't really work for me but aware does for others) this way by far the best 'self help' resource I came across:
    cci.health.wa.gov.au/Res…elf
However, of you are experiencing anxiety or depression I think always important to discuss with your GP as well.

These can be useful, although the NHS also supplies booklets on managing anxiety for free.

Some really great comments here...just shows you are not alone on this journey.
One thing i will also say, i wasn't really sleeping right in bed at 11pm awake at 2am then dozing till it was time to get up for work at 6.30. Now here's the issue...been working at the same depot for 22 years and had a number of team leaders/supervisors come and go, iv not had a problem with my work only i asked if i could be moved to other depot for reason of the current/new supervisor we don't get on, i tried to but he doesn't what to play ball. So got the transfer in Feb 2024 and i can really say its the best move i made, same company but different people. They have banter, take in turns to buy lunch on Fridays
The moral of the story...am now sleeping better etc(no sure if the worry of going to work at the old depot was putting a stain on me and i just couldn't see it) just wrapped up in a bubble and getting on with the norm day in day out, as have family to support and been a man and all that didn't want to let anyone down, but looking back i was, ME! i just didn't know. Just need to make it up to my lady now

Currently seeing a therapist for anxiety and some derealisation. I'd already had good results with emdr therapy but that was for Ptsd. I've been also looking at an app and book called The Dare Response and that has been really good. It's been really good to have a listen (I have agoraphobia too atm and am really scared of going out on my own atm) the only issue with the Dare Response is the app costs about £60 after the free trial ends so looking for some other options.

I find listening to some podcasts via headphones helps too. Gives my brain something to chew on whilst I try and focus on bits around my home. Made going out a little less painful too.
