The description is WRONG this does not have the Quadro 2000 1GB that would be silly as that is a 2010 GPU. This has a 4GB T2000 which is a 2019 GPU >

I'm puzzled as to who this configuration was originally aimed at (which could possibly explain why it has been remaindered) - wifi only and "Home" OS. I thought this processor had Intel UHD Graphics 630 built in? Wouldn't that allow the added GPU to be powered down?

If it had come in under 500, I'd have quite possibly bought it. My i5 3210M can't go on forever. But I wanted something <500 that would last me that long ( 12 years old now). This processor appears to be only 4 - 5 years old...

It's aimed at semi pro and pro users because of the RAM size and OpenGL optimised GPU. It's meant for typical tasks such as 3D Rendering etc.

Also the GPU has the wrong description this has the Quadro T2000 and not a Quadro 2000. A Quadro 2000 is a 2010 GPU whereas the T2000 is a 4GB VRAM card with CUDA 7.5 and not 1GB and CUDA 2.1 with the old 2000.

This is an excellent laptop for the price. I received mine this morning. The battery is 97 Wh, so there is space for only one M.2 2280 SSD. I swapped the 1TB drive for a 2TB one. I enabled TPM 2.0 in BIOS and installed Windows 11 Pro. After updating all the drivers, I can say it was definitely worth the money. I am using it for side projects, development, and data analysis. This is a bargain. Thanks, OP.

    Final update on this machine:
    Pros
    • delivered less than 48 hours after ordering
    • perfect condition, no scratches or wear
    • 4Gb T2000 GPU, fingerprint reader, 64Gb ram, 1TB drive
    • everything works, blazing fast
    • battery lasting 5 hours so far, looks like it will easily go over 6
    • built like a tank, yet thin and quite light
    • quiet fans

    Cons
    • the webcam is positioned on the bottom of the screen (unlike the pictures on dell site)
    • no security processor, hence Win 11 reports it can not be installed
    • supplied Dell power supply has an adapter, suggesting it wasn't originally intended for this model
    • keys are somewhat small, though comfortable

Overall really impressed with it for the price but with the cam and Win 11 issues, it's going back.

I just had mine delivered this morning. I installed Win11. I only had to switch on TPM 2.0 in BIOS, as a standard, I reckon it is switched off on all of them. It came with the larger, 97 Wh battery.

    Great deal

A quick re-paste and a 1 or 2TB NVMe SSD will turn it into a great laptop for a software developer or the like. Has a Thunderbolt 3 port, so easy to connect to an external GPU or double 4K 60Hz monitors.

Bought a similar one of these back in Dec (32gb RAM, 4K touchscreen) but had to return. Horrible throttling even with just one tab of Chrome open. Reinstalled Windows multiple times, no difference. Had a peak at the BIOS and found a log of numerous thermal shutdowns since 2021. Sent Dell Refurbished a pic of the BIOS log and returned for a full refund after 4 months. Personally won't risk again. (edited)

We had these at work on lease from Dell. My Xeon 5540 went through 4 batteries in 3 years (started to expand!) and I had to disable the discrete GPU as the CPU would throttle to 800mhz if I loaded up a graphics intensive application like Civil3D.

My colleagues had the same problems with theirs (edited)

For anyone interested in this particular configuration, I just received my service tag - the machine is dated December 2020 and apparently eligible for Win 11 upgrade. (edited)

5 year old GPU for over 500 quid , no thanks (edited)
    Willy_Wonka's avatar
Its not a 14 year old CPU. Its 5 years old & was a top tier Intel & has 64GB RAM

Yes, I think the price is still a bit steep but as people are posting used 8th gen i3s & i5s with 8GB RAM it doesn't sound that bad

Lack of Lan a bit weird on a pro machine
    plewis00's avatar
It is thinner than the Ethernet port - that is why, this is basically an XPS 15 (older shape, pre-2020) with a professional GPU. The similar but thicker Precision 75xx series does have LAN.

    Too much for old tech
  11. komi's avatar
Great spec back in the days but would avoid being really old now, battery on it would likely be bad too given the age

    Mechanical hard drive.

Appreciate the OPs justification for RAM, GPU, etc. but mechanical drives will destroy any chance of being effieicnet with this machine.
    jaffamuffin's avatar
    No lan as well. Lol.
  13. KeepForgettingPassword's avatar
The build quality on this will be great, but 5 year old specs and that weak gpu are never worth £500, I would pay £300 max for this.
  14. Markoffski63's avatar
    For this money, nope

Wife constantly complaining how her 13th gen i7/ 16gb is unbearably slow at running Word & Excel. So, when I saw an i9 with 64gb RAM and a real graphics card for under £500, I just couldn't not. Ordered. Thanks!
    JasonVareke's avatar
Yeah not sure if that’s the best course of action considering this is a whole 4 generations older than her i7 & I’m sure you could probably upgrade the ram on her machine for a lot cheaper than the cost of a whole new laptop.

Not to mention that I haven’t seen a single i9 laptop work well in my whole IT career

Very good for anyone studying engineering as this is one of the few supported graphics cards that the software they use works with (I forget what the software is called!). I had to pay nearly a grand for a new laptop with specs worse than these just to get a laptop with a supported 'commercial' graphics card.

Now i know how the 8gb M1 mac haters feel.  My brain trying to compute why somebody would buy this outdated hunk of junk is probably only matched by their confusion as to why someone would drop a grand on an 8GB apple machine.

The long list of exclusions on the warranty are enough to put me off. No, thank you!
Does this mean that you would have to pay for getting any component part fixed under any circumstances?

The price seems to have increased markedly, even with the code. Am I missing something?
  22. amadeus53's avatar
Grabbed these at £385 each , for some reason their 50% off applies more discount
    emlin's avatar
    All of them?

    yep

I hope that you can live with yourself then. This is a site where individuals share deals to help out others, in a communal spirit. It is not for profiteers who already have more than enough money to make yet more. I'm a pensioner and had just scraped enough money together to buy this laptop, which I need, then I go to buy only to find that you've been unable to contain your greed and denied me the opportunity. Shame on you. (edited)
