Well, this is now a reality thanks to this latest technology WiFi Ready air conditioner. Just add the WiFi usb dongles and you are ready for the future. There is also the addition of the latest 'Follow Me Technology', which adjusts the temperature of the unit according to where the remote is situated, just press the 'iFEEL' button on the remote and you'll get a comfortable temperature where you want, not where the air con wants!

Worth noting that not only do you need a FGas engineer to install one of these, you also need one to enable you to buy the system. It's a very fine line Appliance Direct tread circumnavigating the FGas regulations; in fact, my regulator recently fined them for some shenanigans (granted, not much to care about as end users)

My very strong advice is to avoid these and look at a branded alternative which will offer better value for money over the lifetime of the system, and continued support long after (a longer) warrantee passes. I remove these "appliance direct" systems often; some less than 3 years old, the others don't last that much longer past their warrantee period, and after that passes, parts and servicing is very hard to be hard to come by.

Any suggestions on companies that will supply and fit a good unit at a decent price? I’m after something similar to this e.g. one unit outside and three inside (for lounge and two bedrooms)

Its the installation cost thats my problem, checked with a couple of companies last year and they all pull a number from their back side of 4000+

Get a Mitsubishi as a bare minimum if you are thinking about AC. A split unit will cost you less than £500. Need to be trained in fgas to fit one but it only due to the refrigerant. But the refrigerant stays outside in the condenser. Don’t bother with the pregassed kits you can buy.

And yet I can happily wheel a fridge/freezer into my own house, plug it in and away I go. fgas ... fthat!

Does anyone have any suggestions on who I can use to install these at a decent price? I want to work out the price for purchasing and getting it installed in 3 rooms (lounge and two bedrooms)

You can get a quote from them to have it installed. VAT free if you get them to install it. But they may inflate the cost to take advantage of that.

It'll be cheap crap kit but I imagine it'll last for a few years.

Do you need to have all three units plugged in or will it work with two?

I have the 2x version works very good so far(2 yrs old), used for heating and cooling. Very efficient and installed for 1600£...
Wifi connectes to HA help with automation etc.
The only problem I had was poor drainage but thats the installer fault...
    Tedman's avatar
Did they just leave the condense just draining on to the patio by any chance?
