ScotRail peak rail fare to be scrapped for further three months until September 2024

As was the case , Scotrail trialed scrapping peak fares, for a 6 months, back in October 2023. See previous thread here. Now it's been extended for another three months, which is great for those using Scotrail

The trial is funded by the Scottish Government, to make public transport more accessible and affordable, and encourage people to ditch the car and travel by train.

We recognise that the rail fare structure can seem complicated and often a barrier for customers, and this trial will make rail fares simpler, and often cheaper. Simplicity and affordability are key considerations in travel decisions, and we are looking forward to offering both to our customers during this trial.





Going by train is on with Off-Peak fares all day, every day until 27 September 2024.

The trial, which is funded by the Scottish Government and launched on 2 October 2023, aims to make public transport more accessible and affordable, and encourage people to ditch the car and travel by train.

What does this mean for customers?

Customers can travel at any time of the day on Off-Peak tickets, enjoying huge savings. For example, train tickets for travel during traditional peak times between Edinburgh and Glasgow have dropped* from £31.40 to £16.20.

What other savings can customers expect?
Examples of some of the other savings* on routes in and out of the main cities include:

Inverkeithing – Edinburgh £12.10 to £7.10
Perth – Dundee £15.70 to £10.80
Glasgow – Stirling £17.50 to £10.40
Inverurie – Aberdeen £12.10 to £9.70
Inverness – Elgin £23.90 to £15.70
